We've had the chance to perform some development on the Hyundai Genesis recently.  Courtesy of the gracious Jim H.

The first thing that really caught my eye when taking the car apart was the amount of oil in the intake and IC piping tract.  When you look closely, you find that there is a decent amount of oil pre-turbo which must be coming in from the crank case vents from the valve cover.  If this was oil that the turbo was already spitting out, this would not be a good sign.  However, I think that it is mostly coming from the crank case breathers.

Easy solution is a pro-mod style catch can with an actual functional baffle.  It installs in an OEM location and clears everything so that if you choose to buy just the catch can as your only mod, you wouldn't have to change anything else to make it work.

What's so good about a catch can?  Well, there is nothing that induces detonation more than low octane gasoline.  Oil is somewhere along the lines of like a 20 octane gas.  So the less of it you have in the intake tract reaching the combustion chamber, the better.

Our goal was to design an intake for the Genesis coupe.  Given that it is a MAP sensor car, there will be no dramas with a MAF/MASS sensor.

The results are pretty astonishing.  10 HP and 20 lb/ft of torque!  What!  I got an email from a Hyundai engineer soon after actually telling me that the OEM intake box is pretty restrictive in order to dampen the noise in the system.  We dyno'd the car before the mods, and again after putting it back to stock.  The numbers stuck.  So I know that the results are totally valid.

Ultimately, the power went up because boost went up.  But boost went up naturally.  Flow was freed up.  We didn't raise the boost at the wastegate actuator.  It went up naturally with the intake we designed.

Up next was fitting up a Synapse BOV SB001.  We ran a block off plate to eliminate the stock BPV built into the compressor housing.  I'm a firm believer in putting the BOV as close to the throttle body as possible.  This is where it works best, and under light load, you bypass all of the surface area in the IC piping and intercooler.

These dyno sheets are pure BOV only.  So, no compounded results with the intake.  Boost still went up naturally and resulted in more HP, about 7 HP and 15 lb/ft of torque.  The stock BOV that is built in, must not have been able to hold the boost very well.

Depending on how much interest we get, we will be going production with these pieces.  Video to follow showing how the Synchronic BOV sounds on the car.

Make sure you block off the factory vacuum nipple on the intake manifold, it is there to be able to hold the bov open when the car is in limp mode. Even under boost

I'd rock one. V6 or turbo 4 they are nice cars and seem to be a good platform.

You know me, I'm like a Turbo-Arian.  No V6 thanks.  Maybe with twins -  Shocked

Check out the torque vs. HP numbers.  Pretty responsive I'd say.

I'd have to agree with you on that one. I'd more than likely pick the turbo 4 over the V6 model.

I love Hondas too, but if it isn't turbo to begin with, it is just so much work to get it to what you want it to be.

You've got e very nice prototype on that machine. In that kind of finished work, you need to have a good quality of a  prototyping machine. I would expect that you would be posting your creations here too.
